For Immediate Release Harrisburg, PA Brinjac’s Senior Vice President Dr. Vikram Pattarkine has been appointed Adjunct Faculty at the Pennsylvania State University’s Harrisburg Campus to teach a graduate course on biological treatment processes. The course covers theory and application of biological processes to treat organic wastes, including wastewater, solid residuals, and toxic priority pollutants. Dr. Pattarkine holds a doctorate in environmental engineering from Virginia Tech, where he carried out research on biological nutrient removal (BNR) from wastewater. He has participated in the development of the Virginia Initiative Plant (VIP) process for optimizing BNR, and has worked on retrofitting existing secondary treatment facilities for BNR. He has served on the task force of the Water Environment Federation (WEF) responsible for preparing a manual on nutrient removal from wastewater. Dr. Pattarkine presently serves on the Scientific and Technical Advisory Committee of the Chesapeake Bay Program, which provides scientific and technical guidance on measures to restore and protect the Bay. He also serves on the Municipal Wastewater Treatment Design Committee of WEF, and represents this committee on the USEPA’s Energy Star Program focusing on energy efficiency in wastewater treatment.
